The child’s heavily pregnant mother was travelling in a truck when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned on a busy motorway near Cajati, Brazil.
The mother was tragically killed after she was thrown from the vehicle and crushed by planks of wood that fell from the truck, tearing the baby from her belly.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to find a crying baby girl laying on the grass only a few metres away, according to local news.
Amazingly, the newborn was unhurt and the umbilical chord had been severed completely in the crash.
The baby girl was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment in a neonatal intensive care ward.
Staff at the ward gave the miracle baby the name Giovanna, which means ‘protected by God.’
Brazilian police are now scrambling to identify the infant’s deceased mother, who was 39-weeks pregnant at the time of the crash.
The truck driver, Jonathan Ferreira, was taken to hospital with injuries but was released soon after and charged with manslaughter.
He reportedly told police he did not know the pregnant woman and was just giving her a ride.
