Ms Grote, who was stabbed to death on Saturday, allegedly featured at the top of the unnamed 15-year-old's list of names to target.
According to PEOPLE, a neighbuor found Ms Grote with stab wounds to the chest in the stairwell of her Longmont apartment complex. She was taken to hospital, but tragically did not survive.
At Monday's court hearing, Boulder County Deputy District Attorney Michael Foote said the “death list” that police found also named Ms Grote’s younger sister.
After Ms Grote was stabbed, the boy allegedly chased her sister around the apartment, New York Daily News reports. The young girl then managed to lock herself in a bedroom to escape.
Ms Grote has been remembered for her “blindingly bright smile” and her aspirations to become a NASCAR driver
“Behind the wheel of the car she built (and re-built) with her family, Makayla was respected by her fellow drivers and consistently placed in the top ten in both the Pure Stock and Super Stock Divisions,” her father told Fox 31
She had a “kind and tender heart,” he added.
The 15-year-old boy is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder over Ms Grote’s death and is not being charged as an adult.
