The 37-year-old, who married Prince Harry only five months ago, will now have to follow strict rules which are in place for pregnant royals.
While the palace rejoiced at the news Meghan is expecting her first child in Spring of 2019, there are a number of non-negotiable requirements.
1. There will be no gender reveal.
Meghan and Harry will not be allowed to reveal the gender of their unborn baby until after the birth, which is a standard rule for all royals.
The Duchess of Cambridge did not announce the gender of her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, until they were born.
2. No baby shower.
While the royal family certainly have the budget for a lavish baby shower, Meghan and Harry won't be having a pre-birth event, as it is royal tradition to avoid this.
3. Meghan will go on maternity leave.
After the birth of her child, the Duchess will be taking a break from official duties. Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, took five months maternity leave after the birth of Prince Louis.
4. The Queen will be the first to know when the baby is born.
There will be no texting friends or gushing Instagram post after giving birth for Meghan - the Duchess will be required to inform the Queen of her delivery before the official royal announcement.
5. Her baby will be expected to learn multiple languages.
All royal children are expected to learn other languages - even Prince George is learning to count in Spanish!
