Suffering from excruciating abdominal pain, Beth believed she was suffering from a fairly common case of kidney stones, but was told by doctors that she was about to welcome a baby boy into the world.
Already proud parents to two adult children - Maggie, 27 and Will, 20 - Beth and her husband Scott, had no idea a third child was on the way.
Their newborn, Liam Ryder Clay, was born a healthy young boy.
Talking to KTLA News, Beth said: 'The shock is just amazing.'
'I was like, 'That just can't be real. It's all contrived, never could happen. You would know if there was a baby in your belly',' Scott added. 'But, we're living proof.'
Beth also told the news channel that she was in 'tip-top' shape before she went into labour, and had been maintaining a strict and regular exercise and eating regime, which saw her lost almost 7kgs during her pregnancy.
For nine months, Beth said she never even felt her baby move or kick.
'The doctor feels sure that he was behind everything, behind my kidneys, behind my liver,' Beth explained. 'I was in tip-top shape, and then...here's the little rascal.'
