Romance novelist Nancy Crampton-Brophy, 68, was arrested for allegedly killing her 63-year-old husband of 27 years, Daniel Brophy.
Police were called to the Oregon Culinary Institute, where Brophy worked as a chef, and found him bleeding in the kitchen.
He died at the scene from wounds inflicted by a gunshot, The Washington Post reports.
Crampton-Brophy wrote a 2011 blog post titled ‘How to Murder Your Husband’, which was a 700-word essay listing the pros and cons of spousal homicide.
The Oregon-based author also published a series of novels based on murder, crime and infidelity.
Taking to Facebook after his death in June, the woman said she was ‘struggling to make sense of everything’.
‘For my Facebook friends and family, I have sad news to relate. My husband and best friend, Chef Dan Brophy was killed yesterday morning. For those of you who are close to me and feel this deserved a phone call, you are right, but I’m struggling to make sense of everything right now,’ she said.
‘There is a candle-light vigil at Oregon Culinary Institute tomorrow, Monday, June 4th at 7 pm. While I appreciate all of your loving responses, I am overwhelmed. Please save phone calls for a few days until I can function.’
Crampton-Brophy was charged with her husband’s murder and the unlawful use of a weapon.
She will appear in court on September 17.
