Taking to the online forum Reddit, the woman claims her fiancé’s mother insists on wearing an extravagant wedding-dress style frock to the ceremony.
‘My MIL just bought a dress to wear at my wedding. She did ask me beforehand what type of dress I think she should wear. I specifically told her to find something that is navy blue, dark green or grey and something conservative,’ she wrote.
Instead, her mother-in-law chose a long eggshell colour gown with sparkles and gold embellishments.
‘When she showed it to me I was absolutely shocked and I wasn't very happy with her choice of dress,’ she continued.
‘My dress in comparison is very simple with a little lace and some satin. As she already spent a lot on it, I don't want to create unnecessary drama. Am I over reacting? What do you think?’
According to the bride-to-be, when she confronted her MIL she was given the ‘silent treatment’.
Her future husband also refuses to rock the boat by asking his mother to find another dress.
Hundreds of people replied to the worried woman’s post, urging her to speak with her MIL and remind her the dress-code etiquette of a wedding.
‘Totally inappropriate. I would tell her, that there is no wearing that dress at your wedding. Remind her of your guidelines and insist that she gets a dress in a suitable colour,’ one person said.
‘It's a wedding dress and utterly inappropriate. That said, it's a fairly tacky one, even looks frumpy and lumpy on the model. I don't think that insisting she changes it would be "unnecessary drama", but she'll probably just wind up looking silly in it,’ another wrote.
